Healing (Shalom)

HEALING (SHALOM)

Jesus provided purification on the cross and covered us in His blood. We are purified from all of our sins, past, present and future through His atonement. Just as important Jesus also healed us from all of our infirmities.

The Hebrew word ‘Shalom’ is more than just a greeting. It encompasses wholeness, health, well-being, integrity and healing. Shalom is much more than just peace and has so much depth of meaning. It needs to be meditated on daily so that you can gain revelation knowledge through the Holy Spirit and grasp the concept that it encompasses every area of your life, spiritual, physical, emotions, mental relational, employment, financial and health.

It means total restoration in the Holy Spirit.

To be healed we are to be made complete spiritually, physically, mentally/emotionally and relationally. That is totally restored.

Numbers 6:26 “The Lord lift up his face toward you and give you peace (shalom).” And give you his completeness in every area of your life.

Psalm 34:14 “Turn from evil and do good; seek peace (shalom) and pursue it.” Seek God’s completeness in all areas of your life – pursue it.

Philippians 4:7 “And the peace (shalom) of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” The restoration of God, the completeness of God will strengthen you.

Jesus is called the ‘Prince of Peace (Shalom)’ He is the prince of completeness and through his atonement on the Cross, through the covering of His blood we are made new, complete, restored creations – we are justified (made the righteousness of Christ), sanctified (made the holiness of Christ) and purified (Restored from our sins and infirmities in Christ).

When you see the word ‘Peace’ as your study, meditate, consume the word of God it should now be a ‘wow’ word that jumps out at you – it means so much.

May the Shalom of Christ fill you will with the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen!

SPIRITUAL HEALTH

This means to be restored to a personal relationship with God our creator, Jesus Christ our risen Lord and the Holy Spirit who lives in us. Any break in this relationship must be immediately fixed or treated.

Our Spiritual well-being is the most crucial part of our total health and fulfillment in life. It must be our number one priority on a daily basis. Without our Spiritual health the other components of Shalom won’t matter – it is the primary part of our wholeness.

We must maintain our relationship with the Holy Spirit because it is through this relationship that we maintain communication with God the Father and Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is our communicator because as Christ said, He, the Holy Spirit, will tell us what He hears in heaven. He will give us revelation knowledge of the living Word of God and His Son, who is the living Word.

We develop this relationship with the Holy Spirit by reading, studying and meditating on the living Word of God, the Bible.

All four areas of your personal health are connected and all four need to be in good shape for you to be in well-being and wholeness. Through our Spiritual relationship with God through His Holy Spirit we can attain the abundant life that Christ promised his Disciples. That abundant life is one that is fulfilling, meaningful, full of purpose, contentment and joy – you will exhibit abundant fruit through the power of the Holy Spirit working in your life.

PHYSICAL HEALTH

This is attained when your body is functioning as closely as possible to the way God designed it to work.

Our bodies are temples for the Holy Spirit and as such should be taken care of properly. For this to happen you need to feed your body the right foods in the right portion, get plenty of good sleep, get the right amount of exercise and see your doctors for regular checkups.

In some ways physical health is the least important of the four. If your Spiritual, mental/emotional and relational health is strong you can be highly healthy even if your body is not whole.

For example, a person whose body is damaged but their mind is still active can still be very healthy as long as the other three areas are in good shape.

MENTAL/EMOTIONAL HEALTH

This refers to your mental and emotional well-being. It means that you’ve learned how to cope with and even embrace the full spectrum of human emotions that we all face on a daily basis.

This is much easier to do when you’ve surrender your life to Christ and allow the Holy Spirit to be your comforter and go to person when life throws a curve at you. The Holy Spirit will help you handle the ups and downs of daily life and embrace the mental emotions that come with each. The old saying “When life gets tough the tough get going” doesn’t help much with the world seems to be crashing down around your ears. But giving control to the Holy Spirit will give you peace (shalom) in the midst of any situation or circumstances.

Anxiety, depression and stress all can affect us both mentally and emotionally. In some instances you may need the help of medication. But proper diet, exercise and spiritual health can also cure these conditions.

RELATIONAL HEALTH

God has made us to be relational individuals. No man or woman is an island. God created us for relationship with Him and others. We need other people. This doesn’t mean we won’t live without conflict, but we can learn to prevent conflict or learn to repair broken relationships. This is part of being relationally healthy.

You cannot be relationally healthy and have any broken relationships and if you’re not relationally healthy it will affect the other parts of your health as well. You have to work on mending broken relationships and this involves forgiveness. Either forgiving others or yourself in relationship to others – you cannot walk with God and have unforgiveness in your heart.

Once your relational health is in order then you’ll find the other areas of your health, the spiritual, physical and mental/emotional will come into balance.

To become a totally healthy person you will need to understand each area of your health and to take personal responsibility for your overall health. We are responsible for our own temples and in today’s world it’s easy to look for a quick fix. Some of our health care providers will promise simple, easy and quick cures – but beware often the side effects of the cure is worse than the symptom in the first place.

You may need to learn to invest in your marriage, control your temper, eat better, exercise more, spend time with God, develop and nurture friendships, spending more time with your family. Becoming highly healthy requires a tough, honest assessment of your weaknesses and then having the courage and commitment to take action by surrendering your will to the Holy Spirit who will give you the self-control to overcome your weakness.
